Everybody has one and everybody loves it. Yes, I’m talking about the beloved GRAPHIC T-SHIRT.
They are as cute as they are comfortable, and when styled the right way – can actually be a very fashionable item in your closet. In today’s post, we will cover three of my favorite kinds of graphic tees as well as a handful of my favorite ways to style them.

3 Basic Graphic T-shirt Classifications:
- The Classic Graphic – this type of tee is one that I’m always drawn to. It’s the tee that catches your eye with it’s colorful artwork. Maybe it has a small saying, but the main attraction is definitely the art itself. My Personal favorites are botanicals, florals, and modern prints or patterns.
- Quotes and Sayings – This style is SO FUN and a great way to express yourself through fashion. There are so many different types of this style on the market. A tee falling into this category can express anything from your political views to your favorite food and it happens to be my favorite kind of t-shirt. I find myself drawn to shirts that either speak positive and faith filled messages OR cute little remarks about motherhood, fashion, and COFFEE!
- The Logo Tee – This is a classic graphic tee with a focus being on a certain brand or group. It can be any brand that you like! BAND Tees fall into this category and are SUPER popular.
*If a tee has a pretty font or is a unique vintage, it gets bonus points in my book.
Okay so now that we have a grasp on a few different types of tees, let’s move on to styling. There are so many different ways to style a t-shirt, and really no way is right or wrong. I just wanted to highlight a few of my personal favorite styles.
- PAIR WITH YOUR FAVORITE DENIM
Skinny fit or wide leg, high-waisted or low rise, distressed or classic, I don’t discriminate. A good pair of denim is something that every girl needs in her closet. Wondering which one should you wear? Pick the style that makes makes you feel most confident, if you feel good in it, stick to that one. I personally am loving the high waisted skinny but the distressed crop is quickly working its way up my GO-TO jean.
2. PAIR WITH A STATEMENT PANT OR SKIRT
A trend that is really catching my attention is the statement trouser. Anything from a great plaid skinny to a boho patterned flare, -I’m loving it.
If you’re on Pinterest then the patterned midi skirt and graphic tee combo is old news – but still REALLY GOOD. Brought to vogue by bloggers and celebrities, it still reigns as one of my all time favorite ways to wear a graphic tee.
3. LAYER IT UP
T-shirts are SO easy to layer, and look fabulous when worn with your favorite denim jacket, vintage blazer, cozy cardigan, or even just a light weight over shirt (ex. flannel, chambray, corduroy etc..) #effortlessfashion
4. WEAR OVER A DRESS
This is a look I thought forever was only reserved for styling over cute baby bumps on little mommas-to-be but recently I have been seeing more and more outfits constructed around this idea and ya know what?? I’m digging it.
HOW TO POLISH OFF THE LOOK:
After putting together your outfit, step back and think about shoes and accessories. Again, there are so many different options (a post for another day) but some of my personal favorites are:
HATS
- wide brim
- newsboy
- classic baseball
FOOTWEAR
- Slides/Mules – brown & black leather are my faves
- Tennis Shoes – chunky or converse
- Heels – as a mom of two I’m passing on this one but its a super chic look
- Sandals – all kinds HELLO warm weather
JEWELRY
- chunky and statement
- thin, simple, & minimal
PURSES & BAGS
- straw and wicker (my fave)
- Modern & Chic leather
So as you can see, with just a few basic additions, a simple graphic t-shirt can easily be the STAR of a runway worthy look.
